The Heel Stone
Ancient and mysterious, Stone Henge has stood as long as the great pyramids. As to what this monument is for, experts can only speculate, Yet there is an oddity. One megalithic stone slightly offset from the rest of the arrangement is out of place. Known as the heel stone, its composition is different from all the others. Likely deposited in the open field by retreating glaciers, its presence may have been the reason why this spot on the Canterbury plains was considered sacred by the ancient English tribes.
