More Than A Screensaver

Matthew Jones

Chances are your last experience with a natural landscape was on a device. Be it from a travel influencer, or a screensaver something caught your passive eye. You may have even learned a tidbit about that far flung place. Tell me, how long has it been since you answered the call of the wild in person? As a culture we spend 5 or more hours a day on our phones and less than an hour outside and for most of us that hour is spent commuting around work and lunch, not communing with nature. The only time we spare to engage with the world outside is through a glass medium, either out our car windows, on our phones, or through the Windows PC backgrounds. This voyeuristic engagement only feeds our anxiety, but perhaps you can be enticed to leave the device for a time and have your own adventure.

These are my meditations and my explorations, and though the experience is muted by the screen, I hope you feel a resonance of their physical presence through my work and what it means to be alive.
